If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36

It has been quite awhile since our last blog update. We are often times without WiFi and very frequently not holding regular hours. Nothing is regular or routine right now. We hope to be able to update the blog more frequently.

We are on the road as it is…it is hard to know where to begin to tell you every wonderful thing that the Lord has done! He has not ceased to amaze us. He is the owner of the cattle on a thousand hills. He measures the span of the heavens with the palm of His hand. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand forever. Isaiah 40:8

We thank the Lord for how He has protected us while we have traveled, how he has burdened our hearts with the lost souls of this nation. How He has given us the words to speak, and how He has given increase to the words that are shared throughout these college campuses that we travel to. We have seen much opposition and resistance as well as suppport and encouragement. We will continue to forge ahead. As dark as this country has become, we frequently see glimmers of awakening and revival.

I have been to 16 campuses and preached in three churches since our last update. Many one on one conversations have been held, thousands of students have heard the Gospel, and thousands of tracts have been handed out. The Lord has allowed us to have many great meetings, and in so many ways He has answered prayers. It always amazes me that He even allows us to even speak to Him and approach His throne room of grace with boldness. Oh how He is worthy, my brethren. Oh, how sweet our Saviour is. Oh how much mercy he grants to those who repent and put their faith in Him. I am praying that he gives these souls salvation. I pray for these college professors to stop teaching such lies from their secular pulpits. I pray that by hearing of God’s rich mercy, students will be burdened by the sins that they are boasting of and rejoicing in and it brings them to their knees at the cross in repentance and faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus, please save these wretched souls like you did us. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Brothers, there is so much culturalized Christianity out there and I am concerned. Many say they have been saved and they still live in unrighteousness. I am asking these young people when I preach to them, “what have you been saved from?” Why did our Saviour have to suffer such great pain and anguish if it meant you can live in sin or that there are many ways to God? Jesus didn’t say to the woman caught in adultery to go and sin SOME more. He said go and sin NO more. Why did He say, repent or you shall all likewise perish? I have met homosexual “Christians”, pornography “Christians” (one girl actually made films), pot smoking “Christians”, hindu “Christians”, drunken “Christians”, angry “Christians”, etc…. How sad to think that our Saviour was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities and then in this great nation of ours there are so many people professing that they are Christians, but yet they are living like the devil. It cannot be. Only the truth can make them free. These universities are cesspools of sin and dens of iniquity. So many ways and not one absolute truth is the mantra that they live by. Anything goes! Everything’s fine! There is no absolute truth they chant. As long as it works for me then it is good for me. Relativism is rampant and I am sorry to say that it has a stronghold in this country and I am sorry to say it is in the churches. It will be an act of God and ONLY an act of God that can save us.

In spite of all these horrific crimes against our God, I can safely say that He reigns on high. I know how He has saved me and how He has saved you. I am encouraged by the saints that are boldly living and proclaiming the truth. Saints who are willing to make a stand for the old paths. Saints that read their Bibles and obey what they read. I thank God for all of you who are holding fast to the promises and living each day for our King.

Two professions of faith took place in the last couple of weeks and it is such a blessing to see these young people surrender to Jesus. We preach a message of hope and fear of the Lord. A message that only Jesus can save you from your sins and from death and from hell. We preach the law to the proud and grace to the humble. Saints, how good is that grace knowing how horribly we have offended God. How wonderful is mercy when we look into the ten cannons of God’s holy law realizing they are aimed directly at us! Understanding how only God’s grace can save us from His wrath and His perfect judgment. Our works can’t save us. Our own goodness can’t save us. No other god can save us but the Lord Jesus Christ and the blood that He shed for our sins. So it is. We are sharing Good News and it is just that, Good News. We preach in love and we pray that if we aren’t crying to these students that at least they will hear the tears in our words. We aren’t qualified, aren’t worthy, aren’t the best at what the Lord has called us to, and yet we have no choice but to continue on.

My encouragement to you beloved is this: don’t allow the culture to dictate what is acceptable in God’s eyes. Don’t allow the people around you to persuade you to be just like everybody else. Please let God decide how the church should look and not let the culture decide how the church should look. Take a stand for Jesus. Above all, live for Christ and for Him alone. Get excited about the Lord and don’t stop. Get that fire burning and that love for Jesus that you once had. Get away from the culture driven church and into the church driven culture. Share this Good News and live today as though it were your last. To God be the glory.

Here are some short highlights of what we have seen over the last few weeks:

Central NY was great for soul fishing. I started out in Buffalo and I found the students to be honestly interested in the Gospel. At Buffalo University, I met a young Christian man that gave his life to Jesus a couple of years ago and his name is Lijo. We had supper after I preached on the campus and we had great fellowship. Here is a photo of him.

At SUNY Brockport, I showed up alone and hadn’t preached for more than a half hour when a crowd of students of about 100 gathered. The state patrol was there, faculty, campus newspaper, tv news, then up walked another preacher. I had met him a couple of months ago and greeted him. He asked what was up and I said, “oh, nothing much – just doing a little preaching”… well, as it turns out, the students were actually there waiting for him to preach! He had been there the week before and had stirred up the hornets nest a bit and he was there to follow up. I was preaching to his crowd! No biggie though. He told me to keep preaching, so I did. Then he went after I was finished. It was wonderful.

I went to Oswego State with my good brother in Christ, Adam Sabo. We had a great day of preaching and witnessing. There were not very big crowds, but it was still a great day. One of the students walked up to me and said “Hey, Mr. Holes”. It turned out that he was from our hometown, I asked him what he thought of preaching open air, and he said that he thought it was great. He was a very nice young man! I gave him a tract and asked him if he would read it…he said yes.

We spent a couple of days at the University of Vermont. I called the police ahead of time to notify them of our schedule. They appreciate that there. We had a pretty big meeting the first day and some great one on one conversations the second day. The students there are so into the drug culture, homosexuality, and atheism. They even have a day when the students go bare naked around the campus.

The last two weeks we were joined up with Repent America and toured Pennsylvania. It was a joy to serve alongside other brothers and sisters in Christ. Mike Marcavage from Repent America does a lot of work preaching at abortion mills and homosexual rallies. He has printed out some very graphic images of aborted babies and displays them while preaching. It is interesting because even though we preach against murder we are always answering so many other questions other than just abortion topics. It is my understansing that there are over 4,000 abortions committed here in the United States each day. We as a Christian body of believers largely sit back and do nothing about it. So I thank God for the work that our brother has been lead to do regading this horrific crime in our nation.

While staying in our motorhome in the Big Valley PA area, we met a family right next door (the middle of nowhere!). They are Amish, but were finally saved a few years ago. Someone came and told them the Gospel. This man’s name is Steve and this is his family. All of his siblings have been born again as well. Steve and other converted Amish that I met told me that many Amish people are living by tradition to be saved…but as we know, it’s not salvation at all. It’s bondage! Their services at church are spoken in High German but their first language is Pennsylvanian Dutch. So they do not understand a thing that is said. They are not allowed to read their Bibles… oh the list goes on and on. But God even saves the Amish. It is a real joy to meet this man of God and some others that have been born again and set free from dead religion. My wife was talking to Steve’s brother Samuel, telling him how she was raised without the Lord, but He saved her. Samuel said “I was raised without God too, and now look how He has saved us both.” Lisa was stunned to think that an Amish child is raised without God and His word. The Amish communities are a great mission field! They need to hear the Gospel like everyone else.

At Penn State we had some pretty big crowds. Here, Pastor Steve, from Rehoboth Christain Fellowship in Allensville, PA, who has never preached open air, lifts up his 2 year old son Tyler, who has Downs Syndrome, asking the crowd if it would have been right to have aborted his dear son. Statistically, 9 out of 10 women who discover that they are carrying a child who has Downs will murder him or her in the womb. That is why we don’t see that many of these babies… horrible. Needless to say, the crowd was completely quiet and the Lord gave Pastor Steve just the right words to say. The students had no argument. The Lord shut their mouths.

We are now in Chicago for the rest of the week. After this, we will head to Wisconsin, then Minnesota, and then off to South Dakota. From there, Lord willing, we will head west.

Eliza and William are doing great. They are working so hard in homeschool and doing such a great job with all of their work. Lisa and the children join me now on campuses once a week or so and enjoy ministering and spreading the Gospel. Lisa has been extremely supportive and loving. Men, we don’t deserve a help meet and yet how gracious our Lord is to bless us in such a wonderful way!

Thank you all for your prayers. We dearly love it when you e-mail us and encourage us. Also, thank you for your continued financial support. This motor home loves gasoline. If it weren’t for you supporting us financially, we could not follow this call in our lives.

God bless you as you serve the Lord.

  4. Terrific reports brother, keep up the great work the Lord is doing in your lives! We pray for you all as often as we think of you and that is alot. Great to hear of so many brought to the Savior, every one that has heard has been afforded His grace and mercy. Lord, we pray and hope they would recieve you properly soon. We are praying about a move up to the eastern shore of MD, this would give us access to many metro areas on the Atlantic seaboard including NYC. Pray for us for this also, as we have two families and hopefully more that would make this venture. God bless you Shawn.
