Ken Silva from Apprising Ministries will be our guest on 1:1 Radio this Sunday at 4 pm Eastern.
Please tune in and listen live and hang out in the chat room. Or, if you are really busy, just download the Podcast to listen at a later date. Ken Silva, an ordained SBC minister, has been led of the Lord to move beyond the typical “plus-minus” type of apologetic so common today and to return to more of the aggressive polemic an Irenaeus might use. Although what is written at AM may often be quite blunt, considering the time of rampant apostasy in which we now live, this also is by design. It needs to be understood that in Special Ops often unconventional warfare techniques become the norm.
In the last week, I have been able to get very rested. I have also had the privilege to preach on three college campuses. Since having left Panama City Beach, I have heard of four more people falling from balconies as well as a hit and run where two people died. It is just that much more evidence of the reckless sin that takes place there.
Below is a video clip that I put together from the beach outreach. It is ten minutes long and is posted at youtube. WARNING: VIEWER DISCRETION IS HIGHLY ADVISED. Please consider the warning before deciding to watch.
Please join us in crying out to the Lord for these young people. We trust that the Word of God went forth and that many would turn from their sins and trust in Jesus Christ for their salvation. “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereunto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11.
As we come toward the end of our 7 month trip throughout the U.S., we are gearing up for this summer as well as next year in hopes that the Lord will allow us to go out again next fall.
If you could, we would love prayer for these specific things:
1. A place for us to stay in New York City from May 15 – August 31, 2009.
2. A Dodge diesel truck that has a Mega cab and a 5th wheel trailer with 2 bedrooms for next fall as we plan to hit the road again, Lord willing. Or something similar!
3. For young people to fall under the conviction of the Holy Spirit and surrender to Christ in repentance and faith.
Thank you for praying!
Florida State University, Auburn University, and Georgia Tech were all great campuses in which to preach and witness. This is the Bible belt where most of the students consider themselves Christian. Unfortunately, there are lots of hypocrites and “sinning ‘saints’ ”. The Christians get so defensive and angry when Holiness is preached. I will say something like, “God does not want sinning saints, He wants surrendered saints”. “God is calling us to holiness, not hellishness” Of course then the response is that I am claiming that we can earn our salvation, everyone is always going to sin, etc. Can you imagine if Jesus preached, “keep sinning for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Or if He told the woman caught in adultery to “go and sin some more.” I am grieved by the luke warm Christianity that is taking over these campuses. If anything, it is the women who are convicted about serving and honoring God. Very few men are passionately asking Christ to be their Lord. They want a Saviour, but still want their sin. Jesus is telling us to be healed…not to be hellions!
One student who I spoke with at Georgia Tech was on a sports team at campus and said that he was a born again Christian. But he admitted to cheating by continually getting the answers for the tests in advance so he can get good grades. I told him he must repent, be given a new heart, be enslaved to righteousness, and be a testimony as to God’s glory and saving grace. Because he confessed to the group and to me of his sin, I encouraged the young Christians present to hold him accountable. He was very convicted and thanked me as he left the meeting. One girl in the group was weeping as the meeting was coming to a close. I often ask the students what they have been saved from. I’ll ask, “did God just save you from hell or from your sin too?” I explain that we are not perfect apart from Christ in us, but surely it does not give us license to sin. It’s shocking to see how many so called Christians live in sin such as pornography, drunkenness, fornication, homosexuality, lies, gossip, unbelief, loving pleasure more than loving God, and thinking God will overlook their sin because He is “all-forgiving”. They do not know their Bibles. They argue relativism, humanism, pragmatism, and compromised Christianity, but they will rarely even quote a Bible verse.
I am becoming less and less surprised at the arguments and how they all seem to be the same no matter where we go. Even the top universities where the students are so smart don’t have any new arguments. Most of the young people get their information from TV (Americans average 6 hours per day), text books that make false claims, internet sites that do not believe in the inerrancy of God’s Word, and unbiblical teaching from churches like the Catholic church, Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, 7th Day Adventists, etc. Bad theology equals bad hermeneutics. Rarely will I meet born again Christians but when I do they stick out like a diamond in the rough. They truly shine.
I met a JW woman the other day. She approached me because she saw me reading my Bible. It was a great discussion until I said that I knew a few verses to dispute her claims and beliefs. She would not take a tract from me, which the JW is told not to do, and she got extremely upset when I asked her if she thought she was a good person. She insisted she was, and then I explained that God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. It’s interesting because we don’t believe in the same Jesus. We don’t even believe in the same Bible. The JW has the New World Translation “bible”. It changes constantly to fit their ever changing prophesies and theology. They are not Christians. They do not believe that Jesus is God. JW’s do not believe in the Jesus of the Bible. In love, I explained that in Genesis 1:1 it says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” The word “God” used there in Hebrew is Elohim, meaning “three in one” (God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Jesus is God! In John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. Rev. 19:13b says “and his name is called the Word of God”. Jesus is God! John 19:20b Thomas said, “…my Lord and my God.” Thomas recognized Jesus as God. Jesus was not the archangel Michael. Jesus is God. In 1 John 5:7 the Bible says “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one”. Just jot these verses down in your Bible for when you might encounter one of our Jehovah Witness friends – and in love do, a quick Bible study with them.
We continue to forge ahead into the fields which are white for harvest. We have one month left on this particular road trip and the Lord has showered us with blessings. It doesn’t seem like we have been traveling for 7 months already. It has gone by so fast. Thank you again for the continued prayers and financial support. Thank you for being a part of our family ministry. We are so grateful to God for you.
God bless you all as you continue to serve Him!
In Christ,
Shawn and family

I will be praying for you and your family Shawn.
God bless you Shawn and I am praying for our Lord to open a path for me to come to NYC and proclaim His gospel together with you!
I get the privilege to preach this coming Sunday p.m. at my home church for the first time…..I’m very excited!
Our college ministry is praying for you and your family as well as Jake and Vincent. It will be a regular part of our Wed. night meetings.
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.
Amen.
Great report, Shawn! I’m with you on the need to emphasize holiness! And I’m a Calvinist! But I think too many “Christians” are either self-deceived regarding their “conversion” or are abusing God’s grace because they’ve been told they are free from the Law and free to sin, since “once-saved-always-saved.” Oh how Satan has twisted that doctrine into something it was never meant to say! After all, Paul asked rhetorically in Rom. 6 (vv. 1-4): “What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” Keep up the excellent work, Brother!
